Farrah Fawcett Dies at 62 After Fight with Cancer

I would also like to mention the passing away of Farrah Fawcett, described by the Associated Press as "the "Charlie's Angels" star whose feathered blond hair and dazzling smile made her one of the biggest sex symbols of the 1970s".

After a fight with cancer, Fawcett died shortly before 9:30 AM in a Santa Monica hospital.

Today is a sad day as we mourn the passing away of two greatly infleuntial, and without a doubt iconic entertainers - Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson Passes Away at 50

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b9/Michael_Jackson_with_the_Reagans.png

Today, on a more serious note, we mourn the passing away of one of the greatest and most influential pop culture icons of our time - Michael Jackson. His influence is not to be doubted, but it's important to take a look at how much his influence extended. Of course, in the music scene, he was a popular figure - hit tracks like "Beat It", "Thriller", "Bad", and "Billie Jean" are just a few songs out of the many excellent works he produced. His persona itself also had its own uniqueness - dance moves that made you think he defied gravity, an "instantly identifiable voice", and more.

But also noteworthy are his roots. He began expressing himself musically, and succeeding at it, at a very early age - he was born in 1958, and his first hits with the Jackson 5, with whom he originally performed, came as early as 1968 - "Big Boy", 1967, was produced under the local record label Steeltown in 1967 and signed with the recognizable Motown Records in 1968. Early on, Michael emerged as the main character in the group. Praised by Rolling Stones as a "prodigy" with "overwhelming musical gifts". Jackson released his solo album, Off the Wall, in 1979. The album quickly reached number three on the Billboard 200, in addition to selling over 20 million copies worldwide.

Thriller was released in 1982, attaining Double Diamond Status in the US after being certified for 28 million shipments in the US.March 25, 1983, was the day of Jackson's landmark, live, performance on the Motown 25 TV special, where he debuted his signature move, the moonwalk.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a1/Michael_Jackson_gives_autographCropped.jpg

Without a doubt, one of the stories, or rumors, rather, that was always told about Michael Jackson was that he bleached his skin to become white. Some say it truly was because of this, and that he had operations done to make himself look paler, while others say that it was as a result of the vitiligo disease, which causes the depigmentation of skin. This was the story that Jackson told in his interview with Oprah Winfrey in February of 1993, negating suggestions that he bleached his skin.It is true that he had various surgeries done, in the form of rhinoplasties and the surgical creation of a cleft in his chin. In addition to all this, Michael Jackson had run ins with sexual abuse accusations.

Why not just tell people I'm an alien from Mars. Tell them I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight. They'll believe anything you say, because you're a reporter. But if I, Michael Jackson, were to say, "I'm an alien from Mars and I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight", people would say, "Oh, man, that Michael Jackson is nuts. He's cracked up. You can't believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth". Michael Jackson

Trying to pick out what's true, and what's not, from the tens of rumors surrounding Michael Jackson, his life, and his actions, is not the point here. In the world, there are things we cannot be sure about, but there are others we can be sure about, and in this case, one of them was that Michael Jackson left a legacy not to be forgotten about. Note that his earliest successes came only years after the Civil Rights Movements of the 1960s. Jackson, along with those he performed with in the Jackson 5, broke civil rights barriers and presented themselves as something above the color line that had been drawn throughout America - they presented themselves as capable, talented musicians that excelled at their work, with no regard to what color their skin was.

Michael Jackson had a life that came under the horrible face of tabloid criticism and scrutiny. But what cannot be doubted is that he was a human being that will go down in history and won't be forgotten.

His Guiness World Record Achievement, "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time", is the title with which Michael Jackson will always be remembered. As a musical genius with a stellar personality that broke color barriers along the way.

Do You Sell Hannah Montana Cheeseburgers?

Hey guys! It appears today, that automated answering machines are all the rage. I'm not talking about, like, voicemail. Instead, think calling AT&T or MetroPCS - before you actually speak to a representative.

That's what todays podcast is about. Enjoy!

EDIT: You can now download podcasts by clicking on the blog title. Enjoy!

AddThis Added!

A new feature has been added to the blog, replacing the older Zemanta Reblog it button; which was very cumbersome to work with when writing a post.

Now, by way of AddThis, there's a plethora of options for sharing any blog post. Hope you like it!

Yet Another Comments Fix by the Name of JSKit

I've changed the comments system yet again, but this time, definitely. Unless any new problems pop up with this new JS-Kit Comments System, this is the one we're sticking with. IntenseDebate, the previous system, didn't allow you to log in with your Blogger account (suckish much?).

This new JS-Kit system allows the following:

  1. Sign in with Twitter, Google Friend Connect, Yahoo Friend Connect, Facebook, Haloscan, JS-Kit, and Facebook! Of course, you can also log in with OpenID and Blogger.
  2. Embed Youtube videos, and also choose a custom avatar for the comment post.
And more stuff, but I don't remember.

Hope you like it! The blog is now ready for action. Good good!

Also, I think I'm gonna disable Zemanta. The Reblog! function that it adds is only available when you're using Zemanta, which I do at home, and I don't always post from home; right now is an example.

I'll be adding some sort of ShareThis widget to the blog later today.

Gosh I feel like an engineer. Enjoy the blog, everyone!

Timestamp Fix

The timestamp for new posts has also been fixed. Turns out it was set for Pacific Time.

Gosh.

Quick Comments Update

As can now be seen directly from the new header at the top of the site; you don't need to press the "Read more" button to access comments.

Simply click on the blog post title to access the Post Page, and leave your comments from there.

Also, the "Read more ..." tag will only be used with overly long posts to truncate them to a summary view on the home page (by clikcing on the Read More ... button you can read the rest of the post.

You may also click on the "Comments" next to the timestamp information to comment, but I'm still trying this out. It seems like it works on some posts, and others not. Use your preferred method.

Enjoy!

Social Networking Terms?

Hey, you use Faceboook, don't you? MySpace? Ning? AvianAve.com?

Well, today, I have another audio podcast for you guys; this time talking about a bunch of social networking terms and what they mean and also, if I've committed them.

Some of them truly are like crimes. Gosh.

Also, you will need to know what the word "anewther" means to understand this podcast. It means something that is something else (as in, it's another podcast) but is also new. You'll get it.

Enjoy!

Like the New Look?

Hey guys! What's up? Like the new look?

The template in use is a modified version of the popular "The Professional Template" template on ourblogtemplates.com. I personally love the new banner at the top - Good News; symbolizing one of the things I strive to bring to people on the blog.

Also, you can now browse the podcasts through a convenient Flash MP3 Player on the right hand side of the site. This widget is provided free of charge by MixPod.com. Podcasts will still be posted individually (along with their respective blog post) on the blog.

Also of note is the new "Tomás at Large Online" picture at the top right-hand corner. This is a new project, forthcoming from my Visionary Productions videographer organization; I had written some details about this project a few blog posts back (see "New Idea for Summer Film Project"). I will be posting updates about it on my Visionary Productions website (www.visionaryproductions.webs.com) and you can access these updates directly by clicking on the image.

Lastly, the Read More ... and "Reblog It!" options I'd talked about in the previous post titled "New Blog Tools" will still be active. If you want to place a comment on a blog post, you'll have to click on "Read More..." to do so.

I'm currently working on a way to introduce an easier way to do this.

All right, well, hope you like the new look! And, check out the latest podcast (there will be a new post above to go along with it); this time about Social Networking Terms. Enjoy!

New Blog Tools/Changes!

Hello, everyone! Today, as you can tell, a brand new look has been added to the blog; it's a custom template called Paperview. After HTML modification, and some help from fellow Blogger, Jeannie (see her awesome blog at www.highlighterjacket.blogspot.com), it's looking great.

Also, you may notice the "read more" link at the end of every post. This won't work for the older posts, but it will be used from now on to redirect to a full page for each post; which will, in addition, show the comments for each post.

Image representing IntenseDebate as depicted i...
Also, a new comments system has been installed; called Intense Debate! This one allows for replies to specific comments to be placed right under the comment being replied to, so as to be more specific as to who's talking to who.

Try it out! Also expect a new blog post, by later today. Enjoy!

P.S. ALSO new is the reblog button; provided by Zemanta! Like the blog post? Reblog it! Simple enough! This will allow you to easily, and quickly write a post about what you've read here, on your blog! Check it out!

New Idea for Summer Film Project!

Hey, guys! Well, as you may know, this summer, I was going to produce a small documentary as my summer film project. Well, that ship has sailed, but I am not on it. I decided it would be better to leave that to when I'm a bit more familiar with documentary film making - no small feat - and to, this summer, carry out a film project I'm a little bit more comfortable with.

Thus, I've decided to make the following my summer film project - Tomás at Large Online.

I hear "huh?" "what?" "does that mean we get food?" Well, unfortunately, we don't get any food, but I can better answer the other questions.

At my middle school, I used to do a small morning show called Tomás at large (yes, I know, complete ripoff of Geraldo at Large. Wonder if he's still on TV). With a run of about two years, the show was basically me telling the student body about offbeat news (like neighbors that spite each other by sticking forks in their backyards) , putting together small, comedic skits; even sometimes doing interviews with Career Day folk! So, anyway, some people liked the show, some didn't, and a number didn't watch it (note this includes K - 5th grade; my school was a K-8 center.) But anyway, those that did always encouraged me to keep doing it, and, when I went to high school, to resume it with more content and less censorship (once again, the show was broadcast to both an elementary and middle school student body).

And of course, the name of this blog comes from this show, although, as you can tell, its purpose is not the same; I just used the name as a memento of sorts.

So, that's what I'm doing this summer. Using the formula I used for my show, and adding on to it with more comedy, a one man band by the name of The Fresh Prince, and more offbeat news; I'm going to make Tomás at Large Online. As you can tell, the show will be broadcast online.

WHAT????

That's right. First, it will be pre-recorded using my personal camcorder, an audio mixer, and all the high quality fadoodles. Then, after that, the video will be broadcast "live" on the Internet, through a free, excellent service known as Ustream, which allows you to broadcast a video signal from your PC (be it your webcam, a video, a picture, etc.) to the Internet. Think of it like Youtube, but the content is live. You can check it out, and even make a show yourself, at www.ustream.tv.

But anyway, that will be my summer film project. Details of the show are forthcoming, but for now, I think I should catch some Z's. L O L. Z's.

Thanks for reading, everyone! Good night!

The Dynamics of Texting

As you'll hear below ... what a better way than to spice up the blog by talking through a microphone!

Today I present a small rant regarding the negative aspects of texting. Don't say any of it ain't true!

Texting is a smart invention, but I think it's also extremely misused. Maybe I'm just not hip. But I like to think I am.

Listen to the podcast below! Enjoy, and leave comments!

Jackie's Technologically Happier Life

Oh my god! Last post, may 7th?!! That's horrible, Tomás! What are you thinking! This blog is gonna start collecting dust!

Well anyway, hello everyone. Once again, I'm sorry for not having blogged in such a long time. No Internet since about April ... but now it's BACK! That's right, the Internet is back! And now, I have the power.... THE POWER! .... to blog.

The topic of the day is one that is a strong and painful realization that computer people like me usually make every once in a while. As of late, I've sort of been dabbing in the computer repair trade; I've done it for a few of my friends but also for actual grown-ups. (yay!). What I've noticed however, is that people who own computers, but don't trouble themselves to know what is inside one, what kind of processor they have, whether they should upgrade, etc. lead more blissful, relaxed lives than those who do (in this respect at least). And the most amazing thing, perhaps, is that one does not have to look hard to find examples.

JACKIE'S TECHNOLOGICALLY HAPPIER LIFE

The following story takes place at some point in time that's not this one. It also alternates between past and present tense but it's easy to follow. Enjoy!

I know two people. One is named Jackie. The other is myself (god forbid I wouldn't know myself!). These two people lead different lives technologically. Jackie uses a digital camera. Tomás uses one as well. Both these cameras, being digital, must record the images that are shot with them onto a digital medium. So, to operate the camera, besides the battery (included to aid people like Jackie to lead the technologically blissful lives they live), a memory card is required, onto which the cameras will be stored.

It appears that Jackie's camera has come along in the mail with a FREE memory card. So, Jackie's all ready to go! Right now, Jackie's already taking pictures of her friends at the mall while they eat ten cheeseburgers (each), taking advantage of the beauty that is the 59 cent cheeseburger at McDonald's on Wednesdays and Sundays. You go girl(s)!

Tomás ' story is different, however. While Jackie's camera conveniently arrived at her house, in the mail, Tomás just had to do it differently. He wouldn't dare simply pick a pretty looking camera off Amazon and have it shipped Express Mail to his abode! Instead, Tomás just had to look at all the different models, all the different megapixel amounts, all the different F-stop and aperture specs. Gosh!

Finally, he decided himself on a bundle that came with everything - including a memory card! Happy as a clam, Tomás was, when he received it shortly after he placed his order. Opening it up, he feels excited and by the end of the day, he's taking pictures just like Jackie.

The next day, Jackie and Tom meet up to share the pictures that they'd taken the day before. It turns out that Jackie had spilled mayonnaise over her lens, and had simply swabbed it off with her finger!

"Jackie! You should use a professional cleaning kit for that!"

"No, there was no damage. The lens is all good."

"But a professional cleaning kit will allow you to even clean the insides of your camera!"

"Why would I want to do that? The camera comes with an internal self-cleaning trigger. See?"

"Well yes, but it won't be as efficient."

"But I won't even notice the difference."

"Fine. Let me see the camera."

Tomas analytically looks at the camera, reading the aperture specs on the lens, looking through the settings. At one point, he opened up the camera and saw that the memory card inside was a DXUI model.

"A DXUI memory card I see."

"What does that mean?!"

"Digital Xenophage Universal Instructor!"

"Ok then."

"L O L. Maybe we should both get a DXUI 2 model! It takes pictures at 100 images per second instead of the typical 900 images per second."

"Oh, wow. Sounds powerful. Ok I gotta go; TTYL!"

Tomás ridiculed the indiffernce of Jackie to the DXUI 2 card.

Tomás began looking for a DXUI 2 model for his camera. Turns out, his camera doesn't support it. So, Tomás bought a new camera. However, this one came without the lens, so he had to buy separate ones. But, then he ran out of money, so now, he's saving up to get himself a large DXUI 2 card.

He talked to Jackie one day on the phone - a never-before-seen event, I might add.

"So how's your camera, Tom?"

"Um, it's coming. What about yours?"

"Great! Been taking pictures all day!"

"Oh, I see." Tomas became a little sad, because he wanted to take pictures already, and not have to wait anymore.

"Maybe you should've just stuck with the memory card you got, Tom. It would've taken pictures anyway. "

"But not with as fast access speeds!"

"Better than not taking pictures for months!"

Being intrepid isn't always the best thing to be. Usually, it works out. But for Tom, the DXUI model fiasco would leave him without a date to the Photographer's Banquet (can't go without a camera!)

Not my greatest story, but I try. What I want to say is that people who just use technology - that just know how to work it and use it for what they need - lead happier lives. Look at Tom - he's fretting over having the latest and greatest memory card model, while Jackie, not even knowing that she could take pictures faster, just kept taking pictures with her DXUI card - no problem. She's still happy as clam, looking at how great her pictures look.

It's OK, Tom. You'll get it eventually.

See you guys again soon.
